Top seed Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei from China had to go through three games in their first match at Li-Ning BWF Badminton World Championships 2014. 4th seed Chris and Gabrielle Adcock also had a few teething troubles.
Tuesday morning was entrance day for a lot of the top pairs in Mixed Doubles at this year’s World Championships in Ballerup Super Arena. As in every major tournament – especially the most prestigious ones like the World Championships – the tensions and pressure can be a bit difficult to deal with.
Chinese Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei, defending Olympic Champions from 2012 and first seed at this year’s World Championships, needed a little more time than usual to get their game going.
Their opponents from Chinese Taipei, Chen Hung Ling/Cheng Wen Hsing – who already entered the tournament Monday – managed to pull the match in three games, before the Chinese favourites once again took the lead and won the match, 21-16, 20-22, 21-12.
- Every match is tough at this World Championships, and we experienced that today. We have to take every match very serious. Right now, I can’t really point out who is going to take the title this year, Nan Zhang said after the match.
First Adcock-victory
Also 4th seed Chris and Gabrielle Adcock from England got a little rocky start in their match against Tan Aik Quand and Lai Pei Jing from Malaysia.
Down with 8-1 in first game, Mr. and Mrs. Adcock pulled themselves together and won 21-16. In second game there was no fooling around at all and the Adcocks easily won the set 21-9.
10th seed Kai Lu and Yaqiong Huang from China won their match against Jorrit De Ruiter and Samantha Barning from The Netherlands, 21-12, 21-16.
7th seed Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam from Thailand defeated their opponents from Russia, Vitalij Durkin and Nina Vislova in two games, 22-20, 21-13.
