Day 2 – Li-Ning BWF World Badminton Championships 2014

More than 50 matches have been played in Ballerup Super Arena on the second day of Li-Ning BWF World Badminton Championships 2014.

Women’s Singles:
A lot of the favourites in Women’s Singles entered the tournament Tuesday. As expected, all of them entered with success. Chinese top seed Li Xuirui defeated Kristina Gavnholt from Czech Republic in two games, defending champion Intanon Ratchanok from Thailand, this year’s 4th seed, beat her opponent Beatriz Corrales from Spain in two games as well. Indian darling Seina Nehwal (7th seed) also got a great start with a safe win against Russian Natalia Perminova. Only one seeded player, Thai Nichaon Jindapon, didn’t manage to defeat her opponent, a well-playing Lindaweni Fanetri from Indonesia.

Men’s Singles:
Frenchman Brice Leverdez almost made a big surprise in The Men’s Singles discipline in his match against 7th seed Son Wan Ho from Korea. But in the end, he couldn’t finish the good work. The intense match lasted one hour and 16 minutes and was won by his Korean opponent 22-20, 12-21, 21-19. Prominent players as 2th seed Chen Long from China and Indonesia's 5th seed Tommy Sugiarto didn’t have any problems winning their first match.
Rajiv Ouseph Chong got a great victory by beating 16th seed Wei Feng in an intense three games match. Dane Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, 10th seed in this year’s tournament, succeded his first match to the great delight of the Danish fans.

Mixed Doubles:
No big surprises occurred in the Mixed Doubles as well, even though top seed Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei needed three games to go through to third round. You can read more of the match here:

Second seed Chinese Ma Jin/Xu Chen also defeated their opponents, Danish Mads Pieler Kolding/Kamilla Rytter Juhl, and entered the tournament with a lot of confidence. The Danes are still counting on 3th seed Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen to bring home a medal. They won their first match in in two games. Also their compatriots Anders Kristiansen and Julie Houmann made it through to third round by beating Hayakawa Kenichi and Matsutomo Misaki 21-9, 20-22, 21-11.

Men’s Doubles:
While all the seeded Men’s Doubles don’t go on court before Wednesday, only a few matches was played Tuesday.
Chris Langridge/Peter Mills from England, Michael Fuchs/Johannes Schoettler from Germany and Malaysian Lim Khim Wah and Goh V Shem are among the pairs through to the next round.

Women’s Doubles:
As in Men’s Doubles, no seeded Women’s Doubles played matches Tuesday.
Among the doubles through to next around you’ll find three Malaysian pairs, Germans, Japanese, Thai, Australians and Russians.
