The darling of European badminton, Carolina Marin, has also conquered the whole badminton world by winning the World Championships 2014.

She wrote Spanish history, when she won the European Championship earlier this year. And now she has done it again.

Defeating the defending Olympic Champion Li Xuerui from China, 17-21, 21-17,21-18, in the final at Li-Ning BWF World Championships, 21 year old Carolina Marin was Sunday crowned World Champion 2014.

- It was a fantastic match. Li Xuerui was amazing in the first game. In the second game my coach said to me: “if you want the gold medal you need to fight until the end”. During the match I remembered that, and I was fighting until the end, a very happy and emotional Carolina Marin said after the historical victory.

- I wasn’t that nervous, I just wanted to enjoy the final, because it’s my first final in the World Championships, Carolina Marin said.

Bronze or silver wasn't enough
Carolina Marin has been impressing the crowd in Denmark all week long, and when she made it into the semi-finals, it still wasn’t enough to satisfy the Spanish youngster.

- In the semi-finals, I felt that I didn’t wanted the bronze medal or the silver medal. I only wanted the gold medal, Carolina Marin expressed after her historical win.

Carolina Marin was the only European represented in the finals at this Year’s World Championships.
