Beiwen Zhang wins her first match in DANISA DENMARK OPEN 2018 presented by VICTOR and she is now in front of Pusarla V. Sindhu in the head-to-head statistics.

Today’s first round match between Pusarla V. Sindhu and Beiwen Zhang was a remake of the finale in India Open back in February, where Pusarla V. Sindhu played on home ground.

The 10th World Ranking player from USA took the victory against the 3rd World Ranking player from India again with the figures 21-17, 16-21, 21-18.

- I really love to play in Denmark because everyone loves badminton, and badminton in Denmark is really popular so everyone enjoys watching the game, said Beiwen Zhang after the match.

Coming out of the break, Pusarla V. Sindhu continued to fall behind and Zhang took a significant lead at 15-9. After two quick points to Sindhu and a couple of mistakes from Zhang, the Indian had a chance for a comeback. This was not enough, however, and the game was won at 21-17 by Beiwen Zhang.

- I think I’ve made many unforced errors, and maybe in the third set I could have taken the lead from the start, but overall I think she did well, said Pusarla V. Sindhu after the match.
In the second game Pusarla V. Sindhu took an early lead at 4-5. The rallies were generally short and Sindhu managed to win back control at the net. A couple of serve faults brought Beiwen Zhang back, yet Sindhu was strong in her defense and had a comfortable lead with three or four points.

As the second game progressed, duels became longer and Sindhu started to express herself more verbally at killing shots. Sindhu stayed in the lead and took the game 16-21.

The intensity on court continued to rise during the third game, both players finding success with challenges. At the break, Beiwen Zhang held a narrow lead at 11-8 but Sindhu found her game and quickly took the lead at 13-15.

Following this, Beiwen Zhang retook control of the match and finished strong to take the first-round win at 21-18, knocking Pusarla V. Sindhu out of the tournament.

- She [Sindhu, ed.] is much stronger, but I have more control than her, said Beiwen Zhang when asked why she was able to beat Sindhu for the third time in a row.
