Today, second round at DANISA DENMARK OPEN 2018 presented by VICTOR takes off and it seems we can expect no less than several thunderous clashes. We have pointed out a few, just for you. Also Thursday, three of the main event’s four side tournaments are on with second round games.

First round matches are all done, which mean that upcoming is second round. In other words, at stake today, Thursday, are the places in the quarter-finals.

As a lot of potential nail-biting showdowns are on the schedule for Thursday, we have tried to pinpoint some of the on surface must-see matches of the day to make the game schedule just a bit more manageable.

Not an easy task, we know, but here it goes.

9 AM local time, Court 1: Two top 10 women’s singles players open Court 1.
Second seeded Akane Yamaguchi takes on world ranked 10, Saina Nehwal, in the first game to be played on Court 1. The two players have combatted each other six times before and the last five times the match results have turned out in favor of Yamaguchi.

In the first round of DANISA DENMARK OPEN 2018 presented by VICTOR Nehwal played an 81 minutes long match, which she, obviously, took home after a third set. Yamaguchi as well had to play three sets before taking home her first-round victory. Soon enough, we’ll get to see whether Yamaguchi’s and Nehwal’s showdown likewise will turn out to be a marathon match.

Around 10 AM local time, Court 1: Golden men’s double on the hunt for sixth World Tour Title of the year.
In present year, Kevin Sukamuljo/Marcus Gideon have won no less than five BWF World Tour Titles.

Five!

Going after the sixth, the constellation will have to defeat their second-round opponents Thursday morning, German Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel. On paper the top seeded Indonesian couple are favorites to win, but their first and sole showdown with the Germans two years ago played out to be a close match that Sukamuljo/Gideon ultimately ended up winning with figures 21-14, 18-21, 21-18.

Around 1 PM local time, Court 1: Olympic silver medalists vs. 2018 All England champions.
Defending All England and Korea Open champions Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino take on the sixth seeded mixed double and Olympic silver medalists, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying, Thursday, around noon. The combatants have played against each other two times before but so far, the Japanese haven’t been able to overcome the Malaysian couple. However, who knows - third time may be the charm.

Around 6 PM local time, Court 1: Home ground hero plays rising star and fellow-countryman.
Former world champion Viktor Axelsen playing at DANISA DENMARK OPEN 2018 presented by VICTOR is for sure an experience you do not want to miss. Playing Wednesday in Odense, Axelsen’s home town, the crowd went nuts during the Dane’s match, to put it mildly.

Tonight, Axelsen will be facing his fellow-countryman Anders Antonsen who recently, at Korea Open, managed to push Kento Momota to the limit. Axelsen and Antonsen both powered through first round well playing and it should be interesting to see, how the two Dane's clash on their common Danish home turf will turn out.

Around 9 PM local time, Court 1: Living legend Lin Dan faces last year’s tournament winner, Kidambi Srikanth.
Last match on Court 1 will be between Lin Dan and Kidambi Srikanth. Lin Dan has won DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR three times in his extraordinary career, with his most recent tournament triumph in Odense being back in 2007. That’s no less than 11 years ago! Kidambi Srikanth won the tournament last year.

The two men’s singles titans have played against each other four times before, most recent in 2016 at the Olympic Games where Lin Dan took home the victory. Since then, a lot has happened in both of their respective careers, and now, two years later they meet again to close court one. But who will come out on top?
