The demand for tickets for the 2014 BWF World Badminton Championships held August 25th to 31st in the Danish capital Copenhagen has been overwhelming. People from Asia and all over the world will travel to Denmark to see the world’s top badminton stars’ fight for the glory.

Marketing with a twist
To market the BWF World Badminton Championships 2014 and Copenhagen, various elements has been used. Sports and tourism organisations have teamed up with the Badminton Denmark legends Peter Gade and Poul Erik Høyer and visited both China and India, combined with many other commitments from the former players and a very alternative marketing campaign using new methods to reach out to the public. This combined with engaging in alternative competitions has been a success.

An intimate event set up
- As part of the Danish way to stage sports events we will bring spectators close to the athletes in order to have an intimate event set up says Chief Executive in Badminton Denmark Charlotte Malmroes. And continues:

- We’ve had an overwhelming interest for these World Championships and we were sold out the final days 7 month before the event which is pretty unique for a sports event in Denmark. Further we hope for involvement from Danish companies with an interest in Asia, this is a unique possibility to open new markets.

- We will try and implement new ways of presentation of the game to turn focus on the coming match from day one, says Director of Event in Badminton Denmark Brian Bach Moesgaard.

- And with 3 different VIP set-ups from lounge to business to Michelin star food, a new way of lighting the stage of each court, bringing maximum focus on each match during the whole event, building a shopping street and so on this event will definitely be worth joining at all levels.

Expected record number of Asian visitors
- In 2014 we expect a record number of Asian visitors to come to Denmark says Director in VisitDenmark, Flemming Bruhn.

- The Badminton Championship has huge interest in Asia, but also the Danish strong historical and cultural heritage, fairy tales, dynamic and innovative elements, attracts many tourists.

On every corner of Copenhagen you find ancient castles, museums and other interesting possibilities to visitors. And in the heart of the city you find the world’s oldest amusement park, Tivoli, which is the ideal family excursion. Visitors can enjoy a variety of excursion packages including introduction tours to Danish green innovation or Fashion design, Viking cultural tours especially for Family & Kids. In addition, Copenhagen is a world-class shopping city, with “Strøget” – the world’s longest pedestrian street, offering both Danish and global brand goods to the delight of international shoppers.

See the stars
The core of the championships is of course seeing all the best badminton players in the world at the venue in August; Ballerup Super Arena.
