The 13th seeded Kento Momota exits the World Championships after only one game. In three close games he couldn’t match Nan Wei, who is through to the second round.

The Li-Ning BWF Badminton World Championships didn’t had to wait long for the first surprise. At the opening day of the tournament, japanese Kento Momota lost to Nan Wei from Hong Kong, who is ranked as the 20th best player in the world.

Kento Momota was seeded to the third round and got a good start at the game against Nan Wei by winning the first set 21-18. Second game was equally close, but this time with the Hong Kongese up top; 21-18. In the third and deciding game Nan Wei was in control and won the set 21-12.

A couple of great smashes secured Nan Wei's victory. He is now facing the winner of the match between Valeriy Atrashchenkov from Ukraine and Dinuka Karunaratna from Sri Lanka, which is played Monday evening.
