Once again, China's many badminton stars dominated the finals at the World Championships taking three victories out of four possible; among them an important win for Chen Long beating Lee Chong Wei in the final.

But Asia didn’t take with them all of the most prestigious medals. Carolina Marin surprised everyone by wining a historical gold medal for her country Spain.

Women’s Singles:
The darling of European badminton, Carolina Marin, has now conquered the whole badminton world. She wrote Spanish history, when she won the European Championship earlier this year and now she has done it again. Defeating the defending Olympic Champion Li Xuerui from China, 17-21, 21-17,21-18, in the final at Li-Ning BWF World Championships, 21 year old Carolina Marin was Sunday crowned World Champion 2014.

Men’s Singles:
The second seed Chinese, Chen Long, never had a medal at the World Championship before he entered Ballerup Super Arena. But this year he triumphed after a win against the Malay Lee Chong Wei by 21-19, 21-19.

Chen Long played a lot of tough matches during his way to the final, but in the end he was capable to find enough power to beat Lee Chong Wei in a close and thrilling match.

Chen Long was in the lead most of the match. The first game was close, but Chen Long managed to get in front 16-11 before the Malay made a fabulous comeback. The score was suddenly 19-19, but despite of Lee Chong Wei’s good period, Chen Long closed the game by winning 21-19.

In the second game Chen Long started out in an incredible pace. Leading 10-4, it looked like the match was settled, but once again Lee Chong Wei fought his way back into the game. Unluckily for him, the Chinese wouldn’t surrender and after 69 minutes of play a new Chinese World Champion was born.

Women’s doubles:
In the Women’s Doubles final, Tian Qing/ Zhao Yunlei were playing defending All England Champions Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang. The Chinese women’s doubles have faced each other several of times the past few year’s with 9 wins for Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang and only three for Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei. But this time, the last-named pair managed to improve that statistic by winning 21-19, 21-15 and taking their first gold medal together at the World Championships.

Mixed Doubles:
One gold medal wasn’t enough for Zhao Yunlei who also participated in the final in Mixed Doubles with her partner Zhang Nan. The first seed Chinese pair was facing second seed Xu Chen/Ma Jin and after 72 minutes Zhao Yunlei could celebrate her second medal winning 21-12, 23-21, 21-13.

Men’s Doubles:
At this year’s World Championships, the Korean men’s doubles have demonstrated, that they are the best in the world. Three pairs were already represented in the semi-finals, and with Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong’s victory against Danish Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe Saturday, two Korean constellations were to find on the court in the Men’s Doubles final; Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong were facing compatriots Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Choel.

While many have expected the stars Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong to go all the way, the underdogs Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Choel had a different plan. Winning their semi-final without even playing (their compatriots Kim Ki Jung/Kim Sa Rang retired because of last-named having neck pains) they looked much more in shape and keen on playing their chance, and so they did. Winning 22-20, 21-23, 21-18 Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Choel was crowned champions in front of their compatriot.
