It’s the day of the finals at the European Championships here in Kolding and it’s time to find out who will take home the titles.
The stage is set for some close and exiting finals today and with a sold out Sydbank Arena it is fair to assume that the crowd is ready for action!
It’s no secret that the Danes have been quite dominating throughout the tournament, but several foreign international stars have also made their way into today’s finals.
The double defending champion and Olympic champion Carolina Marina is up against Kirsty Gilmour from Scotland. Those two actually met at the final last year where Marin won. According to Marin today’s final will be different than last year’s though
- I played her in the final last year, but this year’s final will be different. I think we are different players now because we are improving all the time. It will be a good game, Marin says.
The Men’s doubles final is a Danish clash as the defending champions Mads Kolding/Mads Conrad takes on Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen who are looking to win the title again for the first time since 2012. It’s no secret that the two pairs know each other very well so it will be exciting to see if any of them have got some secret tricks up their sleeves.

In Men’s singles English Rajiv Ouseph is fighthing for his first European gold medal. So far his best result is a silver medal in 2014, so today he is looking to take it one step further. In order to do that he needs to defeat the up coming Dane, 20-year old Anders Antonsen.
Antonsen delivered quite a performance yesterday when he defeated Viktor Axelsen in straight games. It will be most interesting to see if Antonsen can take it all the way. One thing is for sure, we will get a first time European champion this year.
The Women’s doubles final is a fight between Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen and Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva from Bulgaria. They have faced each other a single time before back in 2015 which resulted in a Danish victory.
The final in Mixed doubles looks like it can be one of the most thrilling matches today. Christinna Pedersen/Joachim Fischer are facing Chris and Gabrielle Adcock.
Between the two finalists the Danes have a 5-1 head to head lead, but a lot of their previous matches have been very close. For the thrill of it, let's hope for another nail-biting drama today.
We can’t wait to find out who will be the 2017 European champions, let’s get started!
